Shakur Stevenson Responds To Ryan Garcia’s Gervonta Davis Prediction

Published:

Shakur Stevenson lashed out at Ryan Garcia on social media after he picked Gervonta Davis to beat him if the two fight.

Ryan posted on X that he feels that the unbeaten Tank Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) will be victorious when/if he faces Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs), but that prediction seemed to anger the New Jersey native.

In reacting to that pick, Shakur said Ryan’s pick of Tank Davis was due to him getting “sat down” by him last April in his seventh-round knockout loss.

Stevenson Questions Garcia’s Win Over Haney

  • Weight Disparity: Shakur blasted Ryan for his recent win over WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney last Saturday, saying it was “crazy” that Ryan came in 3 lbs heavier at the weigh-in and that he’d made Devin “drain himself so that he could in feeling good.”
  • Fight Night Weight: Stevenson added that he thinks Ryan weighed 174 lbs on the night of the fight compared to Haney’s 162. He then called Ryan a “cheater” for being heavier than Haney.

Ryan’s prediction of a Tank Davis win over Shakur echoes what many boxing fans are saying. They feel that Davis is too strong for Stevenson, who is coming off a career-worst performance against Edwin De Los Santos last November at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Stevenson doesn’t throw enough meaningful punches to beat a powerful lightweight in the class of Tank Davis, and the judges are not going to give him many rounds if he’s running all night like he did against De Los Santos. Many boxing fans saw Shakur lose that fight.

Shakur’s Fight Plan Needs Work

Shakur needs to focus on looking good in his new few fights by choosing in the pocket, and slug with his opponents if he wants to persuade Tank Davis to fight him.

There is no chance on earth that Tank will fight Shakur after the way he fought De Los Santos. I think it’s useless for Shakur to continue to beg for a fight against Tank until he changes his fighting style, and beats some of these killers at 135 or 140:

Abdullah Mason
Raymond Muratalla
Subriel Matias
Vasily Lomachenko
Floyd Schofield
Devin Haney
