Tense Face-Off Hints At Kambosos – Lomachenko Fireworks

Published:

George Kambosos Jr. and Vasily Lomachenko had an extended face-off that lasted for three minutes during today’s final press conference for their headliner, which will be held this Saturday, May 11th, at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Nerves and Size Difference

Kambosos Jr. (21-2, 10 KOs) was nervously chewing gum a mile a minute during the face-off, and it was clear that he was uncomfortable standing in front of the legend Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs). There was a noticeable size difference between them. Kambosos looked like a division bigger than Lomachneko

During the press conference, Kambosos said the usual things, talking about “warrior” this and “warrior” that. None of it means anything if he can’t raise his game to a level hie’s not shown before during his career.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist and former three-division world champion Lomachenko is on another level than the 30-year-old Kambosos talent-wise.

Although Lomachenko lost fights against Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez in the last four years, he fought well enough to win both contests despite being at least 10-15 lbs lighter than him.

Being that much smaller than another fighter at lightweight is a huge weight difference, yet Lomachenko fought well enough to rate wins in both fights.

Kambosos Sizes Up Lomachenko

“I think he understands it’s an extremely big fight with a lot of ramifications in this fight, and I think he realizes the kind of guy he has in front of him,” said George Kambosos Jr. to Fighthype about his fight against Vasily Lomachenko on Saturday night.

“This is two warriors. So, you can’t expect anything less. Whatever his mentality is. My mentality is one thing and that’s war. My mentality is to win the victory.

“It was nice. I love the fight game and having that warrior instinct. He’s a warrior and I’m a warrior. You got two guys coming to fight for the fans. But don’t get it twisted. I’m coming to win this fight and he saw that.

“You would think so in theory, but I don’t think so much about that,” said Kambosos about Lomachenko’s career on the line.

“I’m just so zoned in for my job and my mission. I have one mission and one goal. That’s why I’ve been so militant in this fight, and I’ve sacrificed like crazy. Hard work and discipline has been the two keys.

“Whatever theory you think so, that’s on his side. My side is clean. Whatever he brings, I’m ready for. I’ve had a tremendous camp. I’ve gone through hell and back in this training camp.

“I’m ready for whatever the great Lomachenko brings. We respect this man, but come Sunday, it’s out the window. We’ve got a fight to win,” said Kambosos.
