Surgical Namo Fazil Dissects Jae Woong Yoon at ONE Friday Fights 49

Published:

It was as if Namo Fazil
had carving knives for hands.

Armed with a punishing jab, clean combinations and sublime standup
defense, the Tiger Muay Thai export shined in his ONE
Championship debut and laid claim to a unanimous decision over
Jae
Woong Yoon in their three-round
ONE Friday Fights 49 welterweight showcase on Friday at
Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. All three cageside
judges scored it for Fazil (4-1, 1-0 ONE).

Yoon (5-4, 0-1 ONE) meandered forward with no regard for his own
well-being, winging power punches at an elusive target. He flurried
successfully at times but failed to lure Fazil into a brawl and
mostly wasted energy with wild shots that were either blocked or
missed the mark entirely. All the while, Yoon sustained significant
damage to his left eye and nose. Fazil stayed disciplined under
duress, piled up points with crisp punches and mixed in a few
stepping elbows, leg kicks and close-range knee strikes to
diversify his attack.

The loss snapped Yoon’s four-fight winning streak.

Meanwhile, Fairtex Training Center rep Anita Karim
put away Adriana
Fusini with a keylock in the first round of their women’s
atomweight attraction. Fusini (5-2-1, 0-1 ONE) bowed out 2:20 into
Round 1, suffering her first setback in more than two years.

Karim (5-2, 3-1 ONE) executed a double-leg takedown inside the
first 30 seconds, set up in half guard and kept her Italian
counterpart occupied with ground-and-pound. The Pakistani
powerhouse framed the keylock near the ropes, applied the requisite
torque and prompted a painful tapout.

The 27-year-old Karim has rattled off three consecutive
victories.
