Footage from the scene shows his Ford Kuga left completely mangled in the explosion with a side door dented.

Ananyevsky’s car was blasted in Berdiansk, Zaporozhye region at around 9.40am on Sunday.

Putin’s crony died on the spot from the injuries he sustained, Ukrainian media reported.

According to Russian investigation, an unknown man had planted an improvised explosive device under the vehicle.

The “components and fragments” of the bomb have been seized for forensic examination.

Ukraine’s GRU military intelligence took responsibility for the murder of the correctional colony officer.

In a statement, they said: “As a result of an explosion, Yevhen Ananyevsky, who was involved in torture of Ukrainian prisoners, was eliminated.

“The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reminds that for every war crime there will be fair retribution.”

Ananyevsky was reportedly in charge of a notorious penal colony number 77 in Berdiansk where Ukrainian POWs were told to have been tortured.

He was put in charge of the prison in March 2022 after Russia took over the region and was accused of systemically using torture on inmates to extort money.

Dramatic moment treacherous Ukrainian secret service colonel is BLOWN UP in car bomb assassination bid in Moscow

Viktoria Halitsyna, exiled head of the Berdiansk City Military Administration, said: “A collaborator was detonated. An explosive device was planted under his car.

“The traitor died on the spot from the injuries.”

The latest car bombing came as Russia exploded a power plant inside the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donetsk region.

In a bid to deprive Ukraine of its energy supply, Russia launched four Smerch MLRS cluster missiles and one high-explosive missile at the Slovyanskaya power plant.

White smoke was seen rising from the plant after the explosion and debris and damages were captured on camera.

Ukraine has long been targeting Russian collaborators who sympathise with the warmonger in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

Within the first six months of combat action in the Russian-occupied territories, there have been 25 assassination attempts on Pro-Putin officials.

RTVI reported that 12 of those attempts resulted in death and seven people were wounded.

Last November, two of Putin’s security officials were blown up in a car bombing in the Russian-held eastern city of Luhansk.

Both deputy interior minister Lt-Col Oleg Shumilov and criminal investigations chief Lt-Col Vladimir Pakholenko were taken to hospital with serious shrapnel wounds after the explosion.

Most recently, Putin’s crony, who was head of an educational centre pumping out Russian propaganda to children, was killed by a car bomb.

In September 2023, a Russian general was seriously wounded after being given an alleged “exploding phone” by Ukraine’s secret service.

Yuri Afanasevskii, 64, his wife and son were all reportedly wounded in the explosion at his house in Luhansk.
