Luis Ortiz Calls Out Jared Anderson In Social Media Post

Published:

Heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson has been called out by the 45-year-old former world title contender Luis Ortiz

This comes on the heels of a boring 10-round unanimous decision Anderson win over Ryad Merhy, last Saturday at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Enter Luis Ortiz (34-3, 29 KOs), an aging Cuban veteran who took to social media to answer a challenge that Anderson’s (17-0, 15 KOs) promoter, Bob Arum, put out earlier this week.

“We’re looking for a heavyweight who thinks he can actually beat Jared Anderson,” tweeted Arum. “We need someone brave enough to get in the ring with Jared and give him a real battle. There’s no one he would be reluctant to fight at this point.”

Ortiz took to social media shortly after the tweet to fire back.

“Good afternoon boxing fans, this is a message for Bob Arum,” Ortiz said in Spanish which was translated on his social media. “Bob Arum, if you are truly looking to test Jared Anderson – give him to me.”

“I can assure [it] will be a great fight,” furthered Ortiz. “And a nightmare for Jared Anderson.”

Despite being 21 years older than Anderson, 24, Ortiz is 3-2 in his last five fights with a win over Charles Martin, and his losses coming to Andy Ruiz and Deontay Wilder. Ortiz picked up a first-round knockout win over Francisco Cordero in January, which ended a layoff of a little over a year after his loss to Ruiz.

Ortiz is an older puncher and one who might not be hard to find but packs a wallop.

Anderson, ranked No. 13 by the WBA, should return later this year and Ortiz could be a viable option. The Cuban is a technically proficient boxer-puncher, who now is fighting his biggest battle – Father Time.
