NEW DELHI: Saudi Arabia is set to participate in the Miss Universe pageant for the first time, marking a historic milestone for the country. Rumy Alqahtani, a seasoned beauty pageant participant and influencer, took to her social media account on Monday to share the news of her representation of her county in one of the world’s most renowned pageants.
Alqahtani, in her Instagram post, expressed her honor at being part of the Miss Universe 2024 competition. She wrote, “Along with the photos, she wrote, “I am honoured to participate in the Miss Universe 2024 competition. This is the first participation of Saudi Arabia in the Miss Universe competition,”
Khaleej Times reported that Alqahtani, hailing from Riyadh, is no stranger to the limelight, having competed in various international pageants, including the recent Miss and Mrs Global Asian held in Malaysia.
The previous edition of the Miss Universe pageant saw Miss Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios, crowned as the winner in 2023. This marked the first time a contestant from Nicaragua claimed the title, with Antonia Porsild from Thailand and Moraya Wilson from Australia securing the second and third positions, respectively.
