Instead, he was confronted by three police officers who were involved in a sting operation targeting alleged sex offenders.

The undercover officers from the Seattle Police Department led the alleged offender to the hotel room at DoubleTree Suites.

Shock bodycam footage shows the moment the suspected paedophile arrived, wearing a jacket, at 3.13pm on April 17.

After police opened the door, the suspect immediately pulled out his gun, and an officer had to wrestle it out of his hands.

During the struggle the gun went off once, lightly injuring one of the officers’ legs.

Another officer joined the struggle and shot the alleged paedophile down.

The three officers are reported to have fired over a dozen rounds into the man as he lay unconscious on the ground.

The suspect was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Seattle Police Department Chief Adrian Diaz said that internet crimes against children had increased by 67 per cent in the last year.

He added: “For our officers, these situations are dangerous, unpredictable, and can escalate rapidly.”

Former FBI special agent Nicole Parker added that individuals who commit crimes against children represent a serious danger to society

Parker said: “Praise to these cops at the Seattle Police Department for their quick reflexes and neutralizing the threat immediately so no one else was harmed.

“Sadly, in light of countless recent line-of-duty law enforcement officer deaths, we know it doesn’t always work out this way.”

She added that paedophiles are often the criminals that put police in the most life-threatening situations.

Parker said: “They know when they are caught – they’re going away for a long time and they have nothing to lose.

“An officer does not have to wait to be fired at before deadly force is justified.

“Officers apply deadly force until the subject no longer presents a threat and in this instance, it appears that is exactly what they did. This was a lawful use of deadly force.”

It comes a day after a suspected British paedophile was arrested in Columbia.

Locals tipped off police after seeing him acting strangely around the teen – who he is accused of sexually abusing.

CCTV footage published by Colombian TV station Citytv showed them walking down the street holding hands.

The girl appeared to be wearing school uniform and had a small rucksack on her back.
