Highlights! Michel Pereira lands illegal backflip knee before securing 54-second submission | UFC 301

Published:

Michel Pereira nearly got himself disqualified earlier tonight (Sat., May 4, 2024) at UFC 301 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but still pulled out an impressive 54-second submission win over Ihor Potieria.

Pereira has been a wrecking ball since moving up to 185 pounds and things didn’t change on Saturday night. The Brazilian powerhouse came out guns blazing and quickly pressured Potieria. Pereira ended up knocking Potieria down and proceeded to do a backflip and come down with his knee into the face of “The Duelist.” Somehow the referee didn’t notice it and the action continued.

Once Potieria returned to his feet Pereira quickly attacked the neck. He snatched a hold of a tight guillotine choke and began to crank. It didn’t take long for the pressure to build and force Potieria to tap. The cageside officials did take longer than usual to issue the official result, indicating a potential discussion about Pereira’s illegal backflip trick.

In the end, Pereira got his submission finish and now moves to 3-0 since making his UFC middleweight debut last October. Check out the final moments of the fight below:
