Health authorities in the Gaza Strip reported further deaths as the Israeli military said it was continuing operations in the centre and the south of the coastal strip on Wednesday.
The Hamas-controlled health authority said that nine people had died in a town located at the centre region of the Gaza Strip.
Staff at the al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City reported that a another nine had died in an Israeli attack on the entrance to a school run by UNRWA, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
The Israeli military has previously accused Hamas of abusing UN facilities and has attacked UNRWA schools in the past. It has also accused UNRWA of harbouring Hamas militants.
According to UNRWA head Philippe Lazzarini, at least eight schools in the Gaza Strip have been struck over the past 10 days, including six run by UNRWA.
Earlier, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that five people had been killed in Israeli attacks on Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip and in Nuseirat, a refugee camp in the centre.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they were continuing operations in the areas concerned. Individuals firing rockets at IDF troops in Rafah had been targeted, the IDF said.
It added that the Israeli Air Force had struck targets in the city on Tuesday from where rockets had been fired at Israel. Terrorists had also been killed in the centre of the Gaza Strip, the report said.
IDF troops had killed a Hamas sniper and another member of the Palestinian militant organization in the north of the region on Tuesday, it said. According to the report, more than 25 targets were hit from the air across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
The Hamas-controlled health authority reported that at least 81 Palestinians had been killed in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.
At least 38,794 people have died and a further 89,364 have been injured since the start of the current war, according to the authority. The figures do not distinguish civilians and combatants and cannot be independently verified.
Israel launched its ongoing military offensive in the Gaza Strip after Hamas led unprecedented attacks on Israel on October 7 which kiled 1,200 people and included brutal massacres of civilians.
