Canelo Alvarez Feels Happy And Motivated By Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s Praise

Published:

Canelo Alvarez feels happy and motivated hearing Floyd Mayweather Jr. praise him. The superstar Canelo reacted to the retired Mayweather’s comment that he has nothing to prove at this point of his career, with Alvarez having fought everybody.

There’s been pressure put on Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) to defend his undisputed super middleweight championship against David Benavidez by fans and by the fighter himself.

Benavidez has seemed so needy. He has failed to create a career path by failing to take on risky opposition like Canelo did in the early parts of his career. It seems like Benavidez is searching for a big payday, and he views Canelo as the one who can give him that.

The troubling part is that Benavidez won’t take no for an answer and is trying to mount a public campaign to force Canelo into giving him that payday.

Canelo Appreciates Mayweather’s Validation

“I feel happy because he knows everything,” Canelo Alvarez said on the Little Giant Boxing YouTube channel, reacting to being told that Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he has nothing to prove because he’s already fought everybody.

“That was coming from him, who has been and done everything, so I feel special. I feel good. I’m here to make history, and that’s it, and I’m going to continue to do it,” said Canelo.

If Benavidez were willing to take risks with his career, he wouldn’t need Canelo because he would potentially be a superstar if he weren’t beaten.

He won’t do that, though. So, instead of Benavidez fighting the likes of David Morrell Jr., Artur Beterbiev, and Jai Opetaia, he’s settled for Demetrius Andrade and David Lemieux.

Not surprisingly, Benavidez failed to become a PPV star and is nearing 30 without having achieved stardom, which Canelo had already achieved well before he was his age.

Focus on Munguia

“It’s hard to judge when you see the eyes in the face-off. I never judge anybody in the face-off,” said Canelo when asked what he saw in the eyes of Jaime Munguia during their face-to-face at their kick-off press conference for their headliner on May 4th.

“He’s a good fighter, a great fighter too, and I’m ready for him,” said Canelo.

On May 4th, Canelo will defend against the unbeaten Munguia on Amazon Prime and DAZN PPV.
