The unmanned Brit had been walking with his dog on the shoreline at Los Enebrales beach in Punta Umbria in southwest Spain close to the border with Portugal.

The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon by witnesses who tried to help him before police and health professionals arrived.

Emergency responders spent more than half an hour trying to save him to no avail.

The dead man is understood to have been identified by his dog’s microchip as he wasn’t carrying any ID.

A post-mortem is expected to take place later today or tomorrow to try to establish the cause of death.

Officials have so far given no indication of what they think could have led to the British man collapsing.

Los Enebrales beach stretches for 2.3km and is popular with both locals and tourists for its clear blue waters and fine sand bordered with juniper and pine woods.

It is also listed as one of the best nudist beaches in southern Spain.

Last week, a Brit tourist was left fighting for his life after a lorry accident on the Spanish island of Ibiza.

The 28-year-old was rushed to the hospital after being run over by the truck on the road between San Jose and Ibiza town.

He is said to have suffered head, chest and back injuries with multiple broken ribs, according to hospital sources.

On a different Spanish island, a Brit tourist, 40, plunged from a cliff crashing into rocks below in a Tenerife beauty spot.

The man was stretchered away from the scene “seriously injured” after a stunt went wrong.
