Blair Cobbs Remains Certain Adrien Broner Will Show Up To Fight

Published:

Welterweight Blair Cobbs recently signed with Don King Promotions, and shortly afterwards he was signed to fight Adrien Broner. Yet, in a recent press release ominous words hung over the poster that read “If Broner shows up”.

The bout, scheduled for June 7 at the Seminole Hard Rock in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will now serve as an undercard attraction to the new main event which is a WBC cruiserweight title fight between Norair Mikaeljan vs. Ryan Rozicki.

Yet Cobbs, (16-1-1, 10 KOs), now training in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Justin Gamber, the former trainer of Caleb Plant, who led Plant to the IBF super middleweight world title. Cobbs has been inactive for more than a year-and-a-half, but hopes to rekindle the magic his career once had with victory over Broner.

“AB [Broner] is 100 per cent going to show up,” said the 34-year-old Cobbs. “The whole ‘If Broner shows up’ is because Don King is tired of this thing with Broner. Broner has not been very consistent with showing up.”

Broner (35-4-1, 24 KO) missed a Las Vegas press conference for his fight with Bill Hutchinson and his November bout with Chris Howard was canceled. Broner, also 34, recently left trainer Kevin Cunningham as reports have circulated that he is training with Calvin Ford, the trainer of Gervonta Davis. Broner is a four-division titleholder but has not held a title since 2016.

Cobbs has felt avoided. That was until a fateful phone call led to a fight he wanted and a new promoter.

“It was Adrien Broner and Adrien Broner’s team calling me to make the fight happen,” said Cobbs . “Shortly after that I was in Don King’s office making the deal happen, making the fight happen.

“The main attraction is always going to be me and AB,” added Cobbs. “Look forward to seeing another press release come out shortly from now.”

“Prepare for pain,” said Cobbs, sending a message to Broner. “Blair The Flair is coming to fight him and stop him – and Blair The Flair is going to beat him.”
