The incident happened on Monday night just after 7pm at Wakeley’s Christ The Good Shepherd Church.

Bishop Emmanuel was reportedly stabbed with a pen and rushed to hospital.

The attacker was detained by churchgoers and arrested at the scene by cops, reports say.

Another man was stabbed in the church and treated by paramedics, The Australian reports.

The live stream footage shows Bishop Emmanuel speaking at an alter as a man calmly walks up to him and lunges at his face and neck with a weapon.

Bishop Emmanuel falls to the ground and screams can be heard from the crowd as several churchgoers rush forward to help.

It comes after rampaging knifeman Joel Cauchi murdered six people at a mall in Bondi.

Hero cop Inspector Amy Scott single-handedly confronted Cauchi as he stalked victims in the shopping centre and shot him dead.

The inspector, who happened to be nearby at the time of the attack, fired a volley of shots after the assailant turned on her and raised a knife.

Cauchi stabbed nine people in the horror rampage, including a nine-month-old baby.

First-time mum Dr Ash Good, 38, threw her injured baby to the brothers out of sheer desperation.

Tragically, she died of her injuries, while her baby is recovering from surgery.

Witnesses told how they heard screaming before seeing the attacker “indiscriminately swiping” at people as he calmly walked along the corridors.

More to follow.
