Arrest of Key Drug Traffickers in Amritsar

Jalandhar, India: Following the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in the war against drugs, Punjab Police has achieved a significant success by arresting two absconding brothers, considered big fish in the drug trade, along with their three associates. They were caught with 3 kilograms of heroin and 525,000 Indian Rupees in drug money.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, informed that the main culprits have been identified as Manjeet Singh alias Manna and Lavjeet Singh alias Lav alias Labh, residents of Guru Ki Wadali, Chheharta, Amritsar, while their three associates are identified as Kans Kaur from Chheharta, Amritsar, Harmanjeet Singh alias Harman, and Manpreet Singh alias Manna, both residents of village Dhunn Dhahe Wala, Tarn Taran. In addition to the recovery of heroin and other narcotics, the police teams have also seized three cars – a Fortuner, an i20, and a Renault Pulse – and a motorcycle, along with an electronic scale.

DGP Yadav revealed that Lavjeet alias Lav and Manjeet alias Manna have been fugitives since 2015, according to Tribune, with dozens of cases registered against them under the NDPS Act. Both the guilty brothers are wanted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai for a 260-kilogram heroin case, and by the Delhi Special Cell for a 356-kilogram heroin case. DGP Yadav also mentioned that both accused had obtained fake passports at an address in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, and were planning to flee the country. Preliminary investigations have also revealed their involvement in a hawala network, which has been dismantled.

Providing more information, Police Commissioner (CP) Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that based on solid information, a police team led by Inspector Amolakdeep Singh of the CIA staff arrested the accused Harman with 2 kilograms of heroin, 125,000 Rupees in drug money, and a Hyundai i20 car in the Chheharta area.

He further informed that subsequent actions led to the arrest of the two accused brothers and their two associates, Manpreet and Kans Kaur, from whom 1 kilogram of heroin, 400,000 Rupees in drug money, two cars, and a motorcycle were recovered.

The Police Commissioner said that the police have also identified properties including a house in Amritsar, land/plots in Shivpuri, Baba Bakala, and Raipur in Amritsar, allegedly purchased using the drug money. Investigations to uncover the entire drug cartel and identify other involved individuals are ongoing. An FIR has been registered under sections 21-C, 27-A, and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Hakima Gate Police Station, Amritsar.
