Armed men gun down 23-year-old Ecuadorian model in broad daylight

NEW DELHI: A former Miss Ecuador contender was shot dead on Sunday by two assailants in broad daylight after being linked to a gang boss who attempted to hide their relationship, New York Post reported.
Video footage shows 23-year-old Landy Párraga Goyburo conversing with a man inside a restaurant in Quevedo when she notices her masked assailants sneaking through the door.
One of the gunmen rushes towards her and fires, hitting both Párraga and the man she was speaking with.
The body of the model has been recovered and the matter is being investigated.
Párraga, who represented Los Rios province in the 2022 Miss Ecuador pageant, was in Quevedo on Saturday to attend a wedding, according to local news outlet Ecuavisa.
With over a million followers on social media, Párraga gained attention last December when her name came up in a chat between deceased drug trafficker Leandro Norero and his accountant, Helive Angulo.
During Angulo’s trial, prosecutors showed that Norero had pleaded Angulo in a 2022 message to help keep his relationship with Párraga hidden after the accountant claimed police had asked him about it, according to Ecuavisa.
“If my wife comes across anything about her, I’m screwed,” Norero wrote. “My friend, her name cannot come out anywhere. Otherwise, my world will come crashing down,” he added, as per New York Post.
He was killed six months into his imprisonment.
Párraga’s finances were investigated by the attorney general’s office, but she was never charged with a crime and made no public statements about the issue or her relationship with Norero and his group.
“The world is an echo, what you send into it, you get out of it,” Párraga wrote in her last Instagram post.
